Becoming a Yoga Teacher

So, you want to become a yoga teacher? Me too.

My journey started over 8 years ago with prenatal yoga. I loved the community and support that grew throughout my pregnancy. Then my practice transitioned to me trying to get my body back with vinyasa style yoga. I was out of shape, unhealthy, and trying to find myself again. Then when I was feeling like I didn’t know who I was or what I was worth, yoga was my safe space. By using mantras and intensions in my yoga practice, I was able to build myself back up to the strong, independent woman I once was.

My dream was to begin helping others, but as a full-time working mom with two kids and a ton of other responsibilities, how was I going to dedicate my nights and weekends equalling 200 hours? Now, COVID did a lot of bad things to our lives, but one positive that came out it for me, was the ability to earn a yoga teacher certificate online.

Holy crap! I can do this! Now, where to begin? What program do I do? Do I start with one of the lower cost options like Online Yoga School? Do I find a specific person? There are choices out there from $300 all the way into the $5,000 range. As I started to explore, my search brought me back to the first person who made an impact on me. Briohnny Smythe. She was the teacher who I watched when I was pregnant with my son. So many of her teachings stuck with me all of these years.

Previously, Bri had been leading in person teacher trainings and had been traveling the world doing workshops and master classes. Since COVID hit, Bri had to reconfigure all of her previous plans and built a wonderful online platform (Aligned Yoga) to support hundreds of students. This, along with her classes on Alo Moves, Facebook community, and live classes, provides a robust virtual program.

What was right for me, may not be right for you. Just know that when the opportunity presents itself, you’ll know it’s the right choice.

So, what’s next for me? I’m going to get my prenatal yoga certification to continue to build this amazing community.
